Most questions are answered in the User Guide, which is inside the app under Settings → User Guide. If you cannot find what you need there, the common questions below may help — and if not, write to us directly.

Where do my backups live, and what happens if iCloud Drive is off?

PackRight has two backup methods, both manual — nothing is sent anywhere automatically.

iCloud Backup (Settings → Backup & Restore → Backup to iCloud) saves a file to your own iCloud Drive. Only you can access it; it counts against your iCloud storage rather than ours. The app does not use Apple's CloudKit sync — it writes a single backup document directly to iCloud Drive. If iCloud Drive is off or unreachable when you tap the button, the operation will fail with an error message.

Export as JSON (Settings → Backup & Restore → Export as JSON) saves a .json file wherever you choose — Files, a cloud service, your Mac — using the system share sheet. This works without iCloud and is a good option if iCloud Drive is unavailable. You can bring the file back with Import from File in the same screen.

One thing worth knowing about iCloud backups: the file is managed from inside PackRight and does not appear as a visible folder in the Files app. If you open Files and search for a PackRight folder, you will not find one — that does not mean the backup is missing.

I reinstalled and my purchased lists are gone — how do I get them back?

Open the List Store and tap Restore purchases. Your purchases are held by Apple against the Apple Account that bought them, so as long as that account is signed in on the device, restoring goes straight through Apple and brings them back. It tells you what it restored, so you are not left guessing.

This does not need iCloud. Restore works with iCloud Drive switched off — the only thing that has to be right is which Apple Account the device is signed in to. If you have more than one, check that it is the one you bought with.

If the right account is signed in and Restore purchases still finds nothing, write to us at support@packright.today — we will work through it with you.

How do I restore a backup, and will it overwrite everything I have?

Go to Settings → Backup & Restore and tap either Restore from iCloud or Import from File depending on how you made the backup. PackRight merges the backup into your current data — it does not replace it. Lists and items from the backup that are not already on the device are added; anything you have created since the backup was taken is kept.

If you would rather start from the backup cleanly, delete the app first (which removes the local data), reinstall, and then restore. That gives you exactly what the backup contains.

I've got a new phone — how do I get my lists across?

The easiest way is iCloud: on your old phone, go to Settings → Backup & Restore → Backup to iCloud. Then on your new phone, sign in to the same iCloud account, open PackRight, and go to Settings → Backup & Restore → Restore from iCloud to bring everything across.

If iCloud is not an option, use Export as JSON on the old phone — the file will be saved wherever you choose (Files, a cloud service, etc.). AirDrop it to your new phone, then use Import from File in the same screen to merge it in.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled entirely by Apple, not by us. We have no visibility into payment records and cannot issue a refund on our end — that is how the App Store is designed, and your payment details stay between you and Apple.

Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple's refund policy and your rights under applicable consumer law apply. If you are unsure whether your situation qualifies, write to us first — we are happy to explain what happened and point you to the right process.

How do I send a diagnostic log?

Go to Settings → Send Feedback → Share Diagnostic Log. The log is generated on your device and never includes your list, item, or bag names — nothing is sent unless you actively choose to send it.

When you write to us, attaching a diagnostic log helps us understand what happened without needing you to describe the sequence of steps from memory.

If none of the above answers your question, write to support@packright.today. We usually reply within a few days. PackRight is a one-person project, so you will hear from the person who built it.

If something is broken rather than confusing, a diagnostic log (see above) alongside your message is the most useful thing you can send.
