Overview
PackRight has no accounts and asks for nothing about you. Everything you create — lists, items, bags, categories — stays on your device, and in your own iCloud if you choose to back it up.
The app does send anonymous usage statistics, so we can tell which features are worth keeping and when something has broken. This page says exactly what those contain. If a claim here does not match what the app does, that is a bug and we want to hear about it.
Your Packing Lists Stay on Your Device
Your packing lists, items, bags and categories are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. They are never uploaded to us, and there is no PackRight server holding your data. The only copies that leave your device are the ones you make yourself: a backup into your own iCloud Drive, or a JSON file you export and save wherever you choose.
This matters for the analytics below: anything you type could contain anything, so none of it is ever included in an event.
Anonymous Analytics
PackRight uses AptaBase, an analytics service built for apps that do not want to track people. Events are sent to AptaBase's European endpoint, are stored in the EU, and are handled under GDPR. AptaBase is the only non-Apple service the app talks to.
What is sent

What is never sent
- Your name, email address, Apple ID or any account — PackRight has no accounts
- Your list, item, bag or category names, notes or quantities — none of your own content is ever sent
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA), device identifiers, or any identifier that is kept for you between sessions
- Precise or approximate location
- Contacts, photos, calendars or health data
- Payment details — those never leave Apple
What this adds up to
- Not linked to you. Nothing in an event identifies you or your device. The session number groups a stretch of use together and then goes away — it is not kept for you, not reused, and cannot be matched to another session or to a person.
- Not used to track you. Nothing is shared with data brokers or advertisers, and nothing follows you into other apps or websites. That is why PackRight never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt — it has nothing to ask for.
- Off entirely in development builds. Analytics are compiled out of debug builds, so nothing is sent while the app is being worked on.
In App Store terms, this is Usage Data (Product Interaction), Purchases (Purchase History) and Diagnostics (Other Diagnostic Data) — none of them linked to your identity, and none used for tracking. That is what the app's privacy manifest declares, and this page is the longer version of it.
iCloud Backup
If you choose to use the backup feature, your data is stored in your personal iCloud Drive account. This data is:
- Stored in your private iCloud Drive container
- Encrypted by Apple's iCloud security
- Accessible only by you
- Not accessible to us or any third parties
In-App Purchases
Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Each unlocked list is a one-off purchase held by Apple against the Apple Account that bought it, so it comes back on any device signed in to that account — we hold no record of what you have bought, and nothing about your purchases is stored in your iCloud.
One thing does still sync through your own iCloud, and it is not a purchase: which of the free lists you have chosen to use. That is a preference, so the same free lists appear on your other devices signed in to the same iCloud account.
The analytics events described above record that a purchase was started or completed, and which product it was, so we can see where the purchase flow fails. They contain nothing that identifies you and no payment information.
Data Deletion
Your own data is yours to remove, entirely:
- Delete the app to remove all data stored on the device
- Delete backup files from your iCloud Drive if you've used the backup feature
- Delete any JSON files you exported, wherever you saved them
Analytics events already sent are a different matter, and it is fairer to say so than to imply otherwise. Because nothing in them identifies you, there is no identifier we could use to find your events among everyone else's — so we cannot pick yours out to delete them. They are also, by design, not about you: they contain no content you created and nothing that describes you.
Third-Party Services
The app talks to two, and no others:
- Apple — the App Store for purchases and for restoring them, and iCloud for the optional backup and for syncing which free lists you have chosen.
- AptaBase — the anonymous analytics described above, stored in the EU.
There are no advertising SDKs, no crash-reporting SDKs, no social logins and no data brokers.
This website is a separate matter, and it would be odd for a page about third parties not to say so: it is a static site with no analytics, no cookies and no tracking of any kind, and it requests nothing from any other domain. Its typeface is served from this site along with everything else, so opening these pages tells nobody but the server that you are reading them.
Children's Privacy
PackRight does not knowingly collect any information from children, and the anonymous analytics above are the same for every user regardless of age — they carry nothing personal about anyone. The app is suitable for users of all ages.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any change to the text above comes with a new "last updated" date, changed by hand — so if the date has not moved, nothing here has.
